Focus Areas

Regenerative Agriculture

SAWA mainstreams Regenerative Agriculture (RA) as a pillar of its Strategies. Environmentally, Regenerative Agriculture seeks to increase soil fertility by increasing soil microorganisms and sequestering carbon dioxide, so as to improve the physical structure of soils, increase water retention capacity, and reduce soil erosion and topsoil dispersal caused by strong winds.

Nutrition sensitive agriculture

In Uganda, nutritional deficiencies among children are due to poverty and a lack of awareness on the importance of a nutritious diet have been regarded as a malnutrition burden, but currently, adult obesity and lifestyle-related diseases based on unbalanced dietary habits have  become serious difficulties.

It has been medically proven that Malnutrition in early childhood has an important influence on brain development as well as physical growth, and agriculture is expected to make a positive contribution in the field of nutrition.

SAWA is improving nutrition in rural areas through its extension system that supports the cultivation and marketing of nutritious crops that are nutrient-dense, improving food safety and quality and promoting market-oriented agriculture for increased incomes and access to nutritious foods through nutrition education with a focus on women
